Permanent Resident Card

Every permanent resident needs a permanent resident card. Permanent resident cards are travel documents. They function as a multiple-entry visa which can be used to enter and stay in Canada for an indefinite period of time. These are valid for five years, and are automatically issued to new permanent residents.

Eligibility Requirements for Renewal

  1. You must be a permanent resident of Canada.
  2. You must be physically present in Canada.
  3. You must have met their residency obligations.
  4. You must not be subject to a removal order.

Note: Replacing a lost/stolen/damaged/destroyed PR card requires additional steps and fees.
